Poznań is located in the Greater Poland region, in the central-western part of Poland, along the Warta River. It is the fifth-largest city in Poland and one of the oldest cities in the country. Poznań has historically been an important center of history, economy, and culture, and was once one of Poland's capitals. The city boasts numerous historical buildings and cultural heritage sites, mainly concentrated in the Old Town and the surrounding areas of the city center.

In recognition of its historical significance, part of the city center was included in the Polish Register of Historic Monuments on November 28, 2008.
